The Lily Loch or Lochan Mor

Easily reached from the road to Loch-an-Eilein for a short walk

Length: Less than 1 mile

Lochan Mor is set in a secluded part of Rothiemurchus Forrest and although known quite well by locals for its peace, quiet, beautiful views, and the sight of hundreds of lilies, it is little know by anyone visiting the area.

The path past the Loch starts at Inverdruie and continues through the Rothiemurchus estate.  However, the Lily Loch can be reached from the road to Loch-an-Eilein, for a short stroll on a warm summer's evening.   As the path rambles through a wooded area, go when the sun is out or there is a breeze, if you want to avoid the midges.

Turn left off the road at Milton cottage and walk along the path, past a cottage on the left.

Continue along this path, until you reach the northern shore of the loch.

The Lily Loch is very peaceful, and provided you go at the right time, the lilies floating on the surface of the loch are a wonderful sight, with the backdrop of the mountains in the distance.

It is an ideal spot for soaking up the highland air on a sunny day.
